Hi everyone, in this blog post I will be discussing the case related to body image and social media which is the case of Billie Eilish and body shaming on social media.
Billie Eilish is one of the most popular teenage singers in today's world. She has over 69 million followers on Instagram, not considering her other social media platforms. Besides her music, she is very well known for wearing baggy and large clothes, which does not reveal her body very much. The whole message behind her style of clothing is that she does not want to be defined by her body. She aspires to be accepted by other features, besides her body size and shape.
With the huge fame she receives when being just an 18-year-old girl, it can get easily very hard. People are constantly judging and shaming her, especially on the internet. Many people claim that she does not look like a woman when wearing oversized clothing and are saying that she is wearing clothes for boys. Recently, on her Youtube channel, she published a short film about body shaming, where she personally reveals her body for the first time. I find it very inspiring and brave. This video was released because the paparazzi photographed Billie in a tank top and the photo blew up on the internet in a few minutes. People were calling Billie fat and overweight. In an interview for GQ, Billie said "I wake up one day and decide to wear a tank top. Suddenly my boobs are trending on Twitter ". Billie is spreading an important message to young people whose body image is impacted by social media, the perception of themselves is controlled by social media or they are shamed on the internet for not looking like it is desired by media.I hope you enjoyed this blog post. If you are interested in this topic and want to share your opinions I will be more than happy to read about it in the comments! :)

Hey Caroline, I truly love this post and your theme in general. I've never seen that video of Billie Eilish and wow!! I truly don't understand WHY would someone body-shame someone else. It makes 0 sense to me and I'm truly happy you decided to speak louder about this topic. I cannot imagine what it has to be like being Billie... constantly being judged by everyone. I guess that is another power of social media. Thank you for sharing her story, since she emphasizes that it is okay to wear whatever YOU like, not what others like or what you 'should' wear. I am tired of people saying 'this is not what women are supposed to wear' and stuff like that. Let's be ourselves and wear whatever the heck we want. Great post!!
OdpovedaťOdstrániťHi Caroline, I enjoyd this post so much that it pushed me to read more about Billie. I never thought of her being a person who can teach her fans something that reallly matters. Due to the fact that Billie is one the most famous and discussed celebrities right now, it is great that she can translate such clever and peacfull ideas. As for body shaming, I was always sad for people judjing others by their appearence, but offending is just unacceptable. I am sure that people who can act this way either do not like their appearence or have nothing reasonable to say. Thank you for this interesting post!
OdpovedaťOdstrániťHi Caroline! Personally, I love Billie Eilish's music, and as a celebrity, I didn't know much about her and that she was so criticized for what she looks like. It seems terrible to me that there is an ideal pattern of what we should look like, especially when it comes to our body. But it's great that she keeps doing this and that she inspires others with her differences. Because it shows many young people that it's okay to be different from the others and not be the "perfect norm." I also didn't know that for this reason, she is wearing oversized clothes. It seems excellent to me that we can see that she's trying to sell only her music and not try to get the money and fame because of her beauty, as some celebrities do. Great article and video! I'm glad you chose to share this topic with us because it should be more discussed in the world!
